Five Reasons You Should Do a Couples Shoot on Your Honeymoon

Congrats on your upcoming wedding! This is a wonderful time for you, and an exciting beginning to the next phase of your life. During this special time, it’s so important to live in the moment and not get caught up in the stress of wedding planning, what comes next, or what everyone else is thinking. That’s part of the reason I love photographing newlyweds and couples so much — we get the chance to document your relationship without the stress of remembering every tiny detail because it’s captured forever in a lovely photo gallery.

A couples shoot is so much more laid back than the timelines, shot lists, and processes involved in documenting a wedding day. After the chaos is over and you’re finally on your honeymoon, I promise you won’t regret taking the chance to meet up with a local photographer and do a special couples session!

Here are five reasons you should do a couples session while on your honeymoon:

Reason one: you can document your new relationship.

Your honeymoon is like a kick-off for the rest of your life together. You did an engagement session before the wedding, reveling in the newness of being a fiancé and anticipating the coming events, and then you obviously did formals and photos at the actual wedding or elopement, which is a phase of life in and of itself. Why not document the next stage, the one where you’re official and just the two of you and excited for what’s coming?

Reason two: you get a chance to just be you, away from the crowds and pressure.

If you are getting married in a traditional ceremony, with the reception and the venue and all the things, you’ll be looking forward to some alone time all the more on your honeymoon. Your married relationship will be brand new and it can be a wonderful time to spend quality time with each other before you return to “real life”.

Document your first adventure as a married couple with a professional photographer to make sure that you have more than just your wedding day pictures to hang around your house or share online!

Reason three: you can take pictures in a location that’s special to you.

Think of what a treat it will be to look back on your honeymoon and have nice, high-quality images of your time on vacation. Not only are you honeymooning in a location you may have never been before, but your time there will be unique to the two of you and you’ll thank yourself down the road for taking the time to document your time there during your honeymoon.

BONUS: It gives you an excuse to revisit the location in a few years and try to recreate your images!

Reason four: catch all the photos you might have missed.

Are you honeymooning in a locale that’s really different from where you got married? Were there a few posed shots you missed during the wedding day? An extra session scheduled during your honeymoon after the wedding is a great way to get even more photos in your wedding attire, if you desire, or to get more diversity in the formal images you get to keep and cherish for the rest of your lives. After all, you bought that dress to wear on the best day of your life — let’s get a few more pictures of it in an epic location with stunning backdrops.

Reason five: trust the local photographer to know all the best spots.

While you may have hired your wedding photographer for their style and not necessarily their location, utilizing a local photographer for a couples shoot while on your honeymoon ensures that you’re getting a local expert. You don’t need to worry about planning a location together in advance or knowing the best time of day to do the shoot. You can trust your photographer to provide you with not only the best photo-worthy spots, but great recommendations on where to eat, what to do, and where to visit while in the area.

A couples shoot while on your honeymoon in a new locale with all the stress of wedding planning behind you is a great way to get your specials days together as newlyweds documented by a professional. We can focus on just the two of you and be relaxed and carefree, which always produces the best smiles, anyway.
