What to Wear for Your Winter Photoshoot

Winter is such a beautiful time to take photos and often underrated. Maybe because it’s so cold and dark, but I think the snow adds such a fun element to photos. I love how it covers the trees and the look of the snowflakes falling from the sky. A lot of people have a hard time figuring out what to wear for their winter photoshoot, so I’m here to help!

WEAR LAYERS

Layering up will not only keep you warm, but also give your outfit more texture and depth. If you get too warm or want a little variety, you can always take off a layer and your outfit will look completely different!

WEAR WINTER BOOTS or shoes with good grip

We’ll most likely be walking and rolling around in the snow and having snowball fights so you’ll want to make sure you have good snow shoes that you can do all those things in! It’s really difficult when your shoes don’t have good traction. I'd suggest some good shoes that keep your feet at least semi warm and that don’t restrict what you can do (too much)!

Side note: A lot of people like to do a nicer outfit and a more casual outfit. For your nicer outfit if you want to do nicer shoes, that’s totally fine! We can hold off on playing in the snow until your casual outfits come out!

WEAR CONTRASTING COLORS FROM YOUR PARTNER

Wear different colors than your partner. You want to make sure they compliment each other but aren’t too matchy matchy (unless you’re going for all black, which honestly looks really good). This also goes for hats and coats. You can definitely both wear them, but make sure they’re different colors or styles!

WEAR WINTER OR EARTHY COLORS

Colors like bright orange or red will pop so much against the snow that it will distract from your face (it can also make the red stand out more in your cold cheeks). Wear jewel tones (maroon, dark purple, green, teal, dark blue, navy - you know, wintery colors) or earthy colors (black, brown, tan, gray, olive). They’ll go really well against the snow and won’t take away from you!

There are some exceptions - there are some cute jackets or coats with brighter colors that look great! Just be aware of what you’re pairing it with.
