How to Elope in the Redwoods

The Redwoods are a perfect place to elope or have a small, intimate wedding with your closest friends and family! The trees are just insanely tall and wide and it’s pretty amazing. The other great thing about the Redwoods (in the summer) is that the tall trees cover some of the sun keeping it a bit cooler and you’ll be less sweaty. If you’re looking at eloping in the Redwoods, here are some tips!

PARKS

The Redwoods isn’t just one park, there are several parks that are all part of the Redwoods.

These are some of the Redwoods parks you can consider when planning your elopement:

  • Redwood National Park

  • Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park

  • Del Norte Redwoods State Park

  • Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park

AIRPORTS

There aren’t many close airports, but these are the ones you’ll want to look at while planning your Redwoods elopement!

Portland (PDX) and San Francisco (SFO) are the major airports that are closest, but they’re both over 6 hours away. It’s definitely a good option if you want to plan a fun road trip around your elopement and take in the views of the pacific northwest and the beautiful coast.

If you’d prefer a closer airport, Medford (MFR) or Eureka/Arcata (ACV) are both within about 2 hours of one of the Redwoods parks.

Some closer, smaller airports if you’re loMedford, OR (MFR) is a 2-hour drive east of Jedediah Smith Redwoods.

PERMITS

You’ll need to go HERE for a wedding permit. They’re $200 for 1-50 people, $300 for 51-100 people. There are a few forms you’ll fill out and all the information is on that page! They’ll also have the locations listed for where you can have your ceremony, some of them depend on your guest count and you’ll be more limited if you have more guests.

CAMPING

You can end your elopement day under the stars (or mostly tree tops) by camping at any of the Redwoods parks! You can go HERE to reserve a camp spot.

I’d love to photograph your Redwoods elopement! You can fill out a contact form HERE and we can start chatting about your day!
